I got to the woods a little before 6 again with a temp of 52, no wind, & overcast skies. The woods started waking shortly after I got set-up. The woodpeckers were going nutz!! Again, no gobbling or hen talk even though I tried my darndest to fire them up. At 8:50, about 70-80 yards out, the white domestic hen I’ve been seeing for the last 3 springs. I called to her & she stopped & looked but turkey-trotted across the field & probably across the road into the next woods. I called every 20 minutes or so but didn’t get any type of a response. I watched my buddy, through binos, digging something in his backyard with his backhoe. He must have repaired something as he did fill in the hole later.
At about 10, the wind picked up & it got a little chilly. At 11:20, I picked up motion to my left in my peripheral. I looked & there was the white hen again. She walked past me inside of 10 yards putting. She was the only bird I heard or saw today & I don’t really count her as she is/was domestic. She must be living right to have made it in the wild this long.
I got back to the truck just before noon & the temp had risen all the way up to 54. It was supposed to be in the 60s-70s all week. The weatherman lied!!!! THE WEATHERMAN LIED!!!! It’s back to my 1st spot tomorrow.
