Just wondering how folks find areas to hunt. As we know turkey hunting is growing in popularity and as more people come into the sport, seems like less land becomes available. it's not like deer hunting where 3-4 guys can sit in the same 50 acres and not know about one another.
The back roads have tripled in traffic the past few weeks as "hunters scout" for turkeys. I know the fields that I've seen toms and can bet there's going to be valet parking starting at 3:30am with hunters tripping over each other. There are plenty of big woods but the turkeys are few and far between (some of the bigger woods still have snow and I doubt turkeys have even moved up those hills yet). I run into people cutting off birds or sneaking up on someone call. The ethics of turkey hunting haven't seemed to catch up to the enthusiasm. I love turkey hunting as much as anyone but good gravy, it's 5 pounds of meat and some feathers, it's not worth pissing people off or getting someone hurt. How do you handle hunting pressure? Do you hunt on private land? how do you handle confrontation in the turkey woods?
Good luck to all those who start tomorrow, have fun and hunt smart.
