OMG -- What a Great Weekend!
It was COLDDDDDDDDDDDD Saturday Morning!! I mean 17 Degrees to start! NOTHING AT ALL SOUNDED OFF ON SATURDAY!!!
We saw 3 Gobblers so Houston was still ready to meet up at 4:30 AM Sunday!
BTW -- We hunt as a Group and had 6 Kids to mentor!
4 Scored on Saturday!
Each Youth is assigned 2 Mentors and pick an area to hunt!
The formula is to have 2 Mentors for each Kid! One calls and one makes sure that the Kid is SAFE and on point! Works Very Good!
So Sunday we meet and get in the blind at 5:00 AM.
5:08 AM GOBBLEEEEEEEEEE!
Then 4 more Birds Gobbled around!
Houston asks when he can SHOOT!
I tell him Legal Shooting Hour is 5:38 or so!
Finally I hear the Upper Bird fly down and give a few call on my Mother Lode Box and he Gobbles back!
We position Houston towards the Gobble and get him ready!
I switch to the Prairie Game Copper Call and he LOVED IT!!!!
A few Purrs and he was right on us!
Houston was Ready and I told him to let the Gobbler "Walk Right In To The Barrel"!
On Command Houston Shoots and the Bird at 20 YARDS FOLDS!!!!!
5:45 AM!
9 Inch Beard!
3/4 inch Spur!
18 1/2 pounds!
