Kenny Morgan made what he called the Frictionwood call. Its a small wooden box that operates with a striker like a pot call.
The Frictionwood has been a staple of mine for quite a few years now and I rarely set up on a turkey without it being handy. Its a great call for close stuff like purrs and clucks, but it also is pretty versatile. I can cutt, fight purr, yelp, tree yelp and sound pretty realistic. It has a very wide range of pitches so I can sound like a hen or a gobbler. The call also does what Kenny referred to as the quaver, a hen purr that changes in pitch.
Since Kenny Morgan passed away his calls have become somewhat of a collector call and went up in price. A call maker from Wis (Scott Hembrook Willowridge Calls) has started making them now. Last year I helped him develop his version and I think he came up with a good one. Scott originally made the calling surface out of Osage like Kenny did, but has since made some with a walnut surface. I think the walnut surface plays easier and a bit better.
Scott sent me his prototypes and wanted me to do a youtube video comparing them to the Morgan call. I made the video and thought I would post it here ti show what the call is like. The 2 prototypes I was using were the Osage surface, Scott hadn't tried the walnut yet. The video shows what the call can do but the sound quality isn't the best. Scott also has since went with a maple striker that is better and easier to use than the ones I had. The video is a bit long but the first third will get you the idea of what the call can do.

One final note...I made the video before I had my hip replacement surgery and I also tore a tendon in my ankle. I was pretty sedentary then. So the role on my belly got a bit big. But I assure you...now my abs are back to washboard form.

Scott doesn't have a web site. You can call him tho. 920-927-3738
Last I heard he was selling the call & striker for $45 including shipping.

But I assure you...now my abs are back to washboard form. Glad your up and running. Enjoyed the video. My Beagle likes call # 1, with the Austin H striker, Best. We've got the "lefty" covered, but not sure i wanna invest in the resonation of the gut's role.
