Day 9 of 2016 Ohio Spring Turkey Season
It started t-storming around 3 &, when I got up at 5, it was still storming & the weatherman predicted t-storms most of the morning. I thought about it & it didn’t seem like a good idea to go into the woods, sit under trees, inside a blind with steel hubs in a lightning storm so I turned off the alarm & went back to bed I’ll spend the day getting as much done as possible for my trip to Gobblers Roost in NY.
Day 10 of 2016 Ohio Spring Turkey Season
This morning a little before 6, it was 4o, completely overcast with the waning moon peeking out of the clouds every little while with a gusty breeze. The roosters started up as I walked back the waterway to the woods. I’ve I had 1 of those damned roosters & he kept waking me up at 6:00 A.M., guess what Sunday dinner would be!!!! A few minutes after I got sat down, a deer ran through the field from the same direction from which I had come. I must have been inside the woods or standing in the field across the road & waited until it thought it was safe to head west. It wasn’t long before the crows started up with the Egyptian geese soon after.
There were more song birds around early than had been the other 3 days I can’t see it but I’m pretty sure a wren has built a nest in the brush pile right next to where I sit. It always seems to be in/on the brush pile or very close. About 10, a deer blew 3 times behind me & to my left.
That was pretty much it for the morning with not a bird heard or seen so it’s back to the swamp tomorrow. It was all the way up to 51 when I got back to the truck a little before noon. A minor heat wave.
