Well, I'm not really sure what this fall holds for me for my hunting adventures. I'm putting things on hold until I get the recommended course of treatment from the spine specialist in a couple weeks. I had an MRI done and discovered I have degenerative disc disease, or at least so I'm told, which has 5 or so of them bulging, causing me all kinds of pain in my back and leg. I haven't missed a deer season since I was 8 years old, which would make this fall my 35th deer season. I'm already trying to get family members lined up to help with the deer, assuming I get one. I'm sure I'm fine to field dress etc, but dragging a deer out of the woods I'm going to have to bet is out of the question this go around! All I've got to say is Mr. Spine Specialist had better not be recommending surgery! I dread the thought of having to go under the knife for back issues. Oh well, maybe the good that will come out of this is my son may actually go hunting with me!!!

Here's hoping for a good recommendation from your doctor and you get all the help ya' need, for gettin' yer' deer out of the woods and onto the cuttin' block!! Let's hope your boy get's the urge to tag along!!! If surgery is needed, stay positive & keep happy in yer' spirits, and keep in mind, at least it isn't 25 years ago

I've got my fingers crossed for physical therapy. That's what I'm going to be pushing for if it's an option. At any rate, I've already gotten offers from a coworker who's from Pennsylvania who will likely not be able to go home to hunt his home land this fall volunteered to go with me, so I have that going for me!
IF surgery is needed and it fixes the problem, I'll be glad to feel 'normal' again!
Have a good'n,
John

Back issues can make your hunting life miserable. Hopefully, your Doctor can recommend non invasive treatment first such as a good Physical Therapist. Back surgery is always hit and miss as far as I am concerned, mostly miss. Having the pain go down your legs suggests sciatica. A good PT can take care of all of this and hopefully you won't need the surgery. Good luck with your hunting adventures and get lots of help dragging and skinning etc.
