After a straight 12 hr & 800 mile trip to Michigan, a short quick nights sleep, the 4 of us headed another 28 hrs & 1500+ miles, stopping short of the boarder for a quick night and crossed Sun at 8.a.m. and on to our Thompson destination.
I hunted with my buddies 300 win mag and the others used bows.
Hunted Mon morn till noon and headed back out by 4pm. & 8:45 this brute came in just before shootin hrs. ended and I lucked out on a lung shot and not a liver as I suspected, when he moved as I squeezed the shot off.
My one buddy is my taxidermist and green scored his scull at 20", whatever that means & the skin measured 7'7" from nose to tail. We were in the middle of no where and skinned & quartered it on the spot and the guides back packed the quarters & put the hide on a pole and the 2 carried it out seperately, as it probably weighed over 150# with all the fat!!! Not to mention the 6" plus on the body after being skinned. They thought the bear weighed around 500# +/- and my taxidermist is going to measure the hide for a closer body weight, when he prepares the skin for a rug.
The others passed on shootable bears as they were looking for "big foot", so my taxidermist ended taking a nice bear for a stuido mount in his shop.
The hunt ended Sat. night and we headed out at 6:30am on Sun and I was in my drive at 7:20am on Tue., so I'm still on lag time .
I believe this trip re-affirmed that I'm gonna stick with feathered birds when huntin'
I can't seem to even adust my pic size from a large e-mail, which this is.
