Since I tagged 2 groundhogs in March & 2 more in Early April, I haven’t seen hide nor hair or any signs of g-hog activity around my place. Over the last few days, I have gotten almost 5” of rain with 1 ½” last night. My creek went well above its banks & flooded a lot on my east & north yards. About 2 this afternoon, I decided to walk around to see what & how much debris had been left as the water has started to recede. I didn’t take the .223 s I didn’t expect to see any pasture piggies. Of course, when I got about 30 yards from the rock pile, I spotted a big whistle pig on top of the pile. It saw me at the same time. Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch, I made my way back to the house to get the 700 & binos. Hen I got to the back of the barn & glassed the rock pile, the g-hog was gone. Past experiences told me it would be back out in ½ - 1 hour so I sat down to wait. About 20 minutes later, it showed up on top of the pile & a few seconds later was on the bottom of the pile in a pool of water, a big male. I think it must have had a den along the creek bank & headed to the rock pile when the creek went over the top. I’m 5-4-5 this year but way below my average of 13 per year.

Good going!!! Remember, I can always drop more off on my way back from Michigan the 1st week in Sept!! In NE, they had so much rain when I was there, that my guy was callin' some guys from PA that were going to come & shoot his 20+ acres of prarie dogs .. but it had 6" to 8" of water over all of it and about 40 acres more besides!!!
